Access Free Resources at Each Stage of the Volunteer Engagement Cycle

Whether you’re new to volunteer management or re-engaging volunteers after a pause, Volunteer Toronto is here to help. It all starts with the volunteer engagement cycle, shown below. This is a framework for bringing in and supporting volunteers, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. Explore each stage of the cycle for helpful resources.

Planning for Volunteers

Think about what you need for a successful volunteer engagement approach.

Position & Role Descriptions

Write out position or role descriptions so that you – and potential volunteers – are clear about what the role includes.

Recruitment & Screening

Make a plan to promote your role, recruit potential volunteers, and determine if volunteers are able to do the role.

Onboarding

Use orientation and training to help new volunteers learn about the role.

Supervision & Retention

Support your volunteers by aligning with their goals, and keep volunteers engaged meaningfully.

Close & Get Feedback

Volunteers will leave for different reasons, and that’s ok! Close roles effectively and collect feedback on their experiences.

I loved the forum before the fair. It was great to connect with our colleagues. This was a great event, and we need this to continue.
